Wanju Welcome Queens Park

Join us for a series of six Play Streets in Queens Park, where we are creating a place of welcome for people to gather.

City of Canning and Football West have come together to welcome the local businesses community and strengthen relationships between businesses in Welshpool and Queens Park. This complementary breakfast brings together industry and community leaders to connect, share insights and updates on the aspirations of the local area, including the new State Football Centre.

The State Football Centre is a $39 million State and Federal Government project currently being constructed in the Queens Park Open Space. The Centre will be a home for Football West's day-to-day administration and include training facilities and playing fields to support grassroots, community and high-performance football programs.

You are invited to attend, however registration is essential. Due to limited places there is a limit of four attendees per business/organisation. Please RSVP by July 15, 2022 via Football West events email events@footballwest.com.au

50 community members attended the planting events in their neighbourhood and enjoyed a free lunch afterward.

The Queens Park Neighbourhood team have completed a very successful eight week Walk, Talk, Play series at Queens Park Reserve over February and March. More than 50 people each week have enjoyed learning Noongar words, interacting with extra play elements and learning from different cultural groups. Some examples have included some Chinese dance performers for Chinese New Year, learning how to use Indonesian instruments with the Peacock Indonesian Cultural Association, Stories from local indigenous group Beananing Kwuurt Institute and having a go at Turkish Ebru Art.

A special thank you to all the City teams that came down to be involved in one or more of our sessions- Libraries with rhyme time each week, CREEC, Community Safety and Ranger Services, Waste team, Inclusion team and Environment team.

Feedback has been very positive from the community, with high interest for more neighbourhood play sessions in the future.

Six What’s On signs have been installed around prominent locations in Queens Park including several parks, the Queens Park Train Station and the Seniors Club. These signs have been installed to assist with letting people know what’s happening in Queens Park through a traditional platform, rather than online

The Let’s Roll Neighbourhood Discovery on Bikes series is a five-part, weekly bike ride for new and novice riders, where we seek to discover the hidden gems in our neighbourhood and beyond, whilst developing our bike riding knowledge and skills.

Each week, riders will be taken on a journey with a given theme. Along the way, visiting various sites around the City of Canning, learning a little about the theme of the week. At each stop, riders will also take part in a bike activity – a game, a skills session or learn from our bike instructor.

Participants are free to choose which rides to attend – come to one, or come to all of them!

Riders require their own bike in working order, a helmet, suitable clothing and shoes. Kids 8 or over are welcome, to be accompanied by a parent/guardian if under 16. Rides will go for approximately 2 hours including all stops. Do you need to be a resident of Canning? No! We welcome people from all over.
