What is an Urban Forest Strategy?

The City’s Urban Forest Strategy is an overarching strategy that provides a vision for the City in terms of its Urban Forest and its intrinsic relationship with a sustainable City. The Strategy provides the framework for the monitoring, assessment and reporting of the City’s Urban Forest and in particular its Urban Canopy.

Why is the City Developing an Urban Forest?

The City of Canning has one of the lowest levels of Canopy Cover within the Perth Metropolitan Area. The City’s Urban Forest extent, inclusive of the Canopy Cover, is intrinsic to sustainability; the strategy will set targets for Canopy Cover in the future and will provide the City with the capacity to continually asses trends within the City’s Urban Forest.
