Renou Street and Gerard Street Blackspot Project

The City of Canning is seeking your feedback on a proposal to enhance safety at the intersection of Renou Street and Gerard Street in East Cannington.

This intersection has been identified as high-risk, with 12 crashes reported over the past five years – including one involving injury.

Key Safety Risks:

  • Unsafe vehicle speeds along Gerrard Street through the intersection
  • Limited visibility due to poor lighting and constrained sight lines
  • Unclear vehicle manoeuvres
  • Multiple conflict points with intersecting vehicle movements
  • Over-represented right angle crashes
  • Pedestrian and cyclist movements
  • Maintaining public transport access
  • Significant above ground infrastructure
  • Vehicle movements from abutting property accesses

đŸ› ī¸ Proposed Safety Upgrades

To address these issues, the City has secured State Government funding through the Black Spot Program, which supports road safety projects with a proven crash history or high potential for future incidents.

Planned Works:

  • Raised intersection construction at the two T-intersections of Gerard Street and Renou Street 🚧
  • Upgraded lighting to improve visibility and enhance safety at night 💡
  • Resurfacing Renou Street from Gerard Street to Lacey Street with minor road improvements 🚗
