Consultation has concluded

Our City: Our Future (and beyond):

Our City: Our Future, was the name given to the Strategic Community Plan review undertaken in 2017. Whilst the consultation for the major review concluded upon Council adoption of the 2017-2027 plan, many consultations have evolved from the review process.

Our mission for improvement doesn't end simply because we have a finalised plan, our vision for the future needs continuous community input to ensure that we are always delivering what was promised and what reflects the current community aspirations.

Throughout the consultation for the 2017 review, it was indicated that the public wanted more opportunities to interact with the City, and more opportunities to be involved at a higher level of decision making. Here are some projects that have evolved from, and continue to evolve from the Strategic Community Plan:

  • Create your own City : An interactive survey was live from 19/03/2018 to 06/04/2018. This survey allowed the user to choose various services and levels of service that they would provide to community members in their 'ideal' City. This survey was an adaptive trade-off analysis model, which is interactive and adapts to each survey response, providing various alternatives for the user to consider in an attempt to push their boundaries and start to trade-off services against one another. The survey model was robust and complex and was designed to provide the City with a reliable understanding of choice behaviour. The results indicated four priority areas for the City to investigate further; CCTV, Libraries, Roads and Business Services. Please review the full report or the summary report for more information.

Background:

Our City: Our Future, the Strategic Community Plan 2017-2027 created in collaboration with the Canning community, was adopted at the Special Council Meeting held on Wednesday 19 July 2017.

We received over 1,500 community submissions via postcards, video interviews, drawings, face to face meetings, workshops as well as by phone, print and online surveys. More than 60,000 people have listened to each other’s ideas which were captured on video and shared on the City of Canning's social media.

The main survey was live between January 25th and March 8th 2017, information was then collated and analysed, with a second survey summarising outcomes available for public comment between April 20th and May 9th. All comments were to be submitted by 31st May 2017.

Our City: Our Future will shape the City's future direction, priorities and services for 2017-2027. The detail of how Our City: Our Future is to be achieved is to be found in a range of other plans, budgets and strategies which together form the Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework.

A smaller (minor) review of Our City: Our Future will take place in 2019 through the Community and Wellbeing Scorecard survey, with a more extensive (major) review to occur in 2021. Outcomes against Our City: Our Future will feature in the City's annual report and on this website.
