Renewal of Hossack Park Bicycle Skills Track
Project Update – Temporary Closure of Bicycle Skills Track
The Bicycle Skills Track at Hossack Park will be closed from 12 May until the end of June to allow for the demolition of the existing track and construction of an upgraded facility.
During this period, the Hossack Park Playground will remain open and accessible to the public.
We appreciate your understanding as we work to improve community facilities.
The City of Canning, in partnership with RAC , is proposing to renew and enhance the Bicycle Skills Track at Hossack Park, Parkwood.
This project will revitalise the existing bicycle skills track, offering an interactive, and educational environment for young cyclists. It is designed for children learning to ride as well as those seeking a road-driving experience in a safe, off-road setting.
The track includes features similar to the public road environment such as road signs and line marking, intersections, speed humps, pedestrian crossings, allowing children to practice road rules in a fun and engaging manner.
📍 What will this Project include?
The Hossack Bicycle Skills Track was constructed over 30 years ago, and originally commissioned and operated as the City of Canning Bicycle Training Playground and Community Project. It has served as a vital tool for young children and families to develop cycling skills while learning vital road safety practices - the aim is to continue promoting active transport and safe road habits. As such, the City of Canning and RAC are funding the revitalisation of this important community asset.
Supporting the development and improvement of cycling skills and confidence contributes to the outcomes of the City’s Climate Ready Canning: Vision for a Climate Resilient City and the City’s Cycling and Walking Plan. By encouraging more frequent use of sustainable transport, we are reducing harmful emissions in our local area and long term environmental impacts. By doing so, while also improving physical fitness and spending time outside, we are kicking goals for both environmental and community health.
The scope of the project is to enhance the bike skill track to improve its functionality and aesthetic appeal, creating a better environment for local families to learn and practice road safety.
The key focus areas of the project include:
- New colourful asphalt for a fresh and engaging surface.
- Bike racks to encourage more cyclists to visit and use the track.
- Artwork on islands within the track, creating a vibrant, visually stimulating environment.
- New road signs and markings to simulate real-life cycling experiences.
- Connection to new cycle path to integrate the track with other local cycling infrastructure.
- Connection to new Hossack Park Playground to integrate the track with other amenities.
- New Road Humps with road markings to simulate real-life cycling experiences.
- Modified Existing Intersection Treatments to improve legibility and safety to children.
- Proposed Play Equipment and Rest Areas.

The renewal of the bike skill track will provide a space for young children to practice and learn essential road safety skills in a fun, controlled environment. It will also encourage safe riding behaviours by helping them understand road rules and develop responsible riding habits. The improvements will encourage more cycling and walking, fostering healthier lifestyles in the community.
