The City of Canning is committed to effectively engaging our community to assist informed decision making. Community Engagement is an important part of the work that nearly all teams at Canning deliver.

Canning has a history of a strong internal Community Engagement Network, and recently the Creative Cafe. Currently Creative Cafe is an informal session where we can get together, connect and share engagement ideas, tools and best practice methods that you can take away to help inform your community engagement projects. This is transforming into the Community Engagement Champion Network (working title). Which is a group of us from across business units, who are facilitating community engagement, interested in engagement and who build and maintain relationships with community groups and stakeholders across Canning.

Everyone is welcome! You can choose to participate in the group via one of two options

Current plan:

Campaigner's

Those who want to get more community engagement experience, through practising at events and consultations and who want to develop their facilitation skills. This group will have the opportunity to peer review other team’s Community Engagement Planners. There will also be opportunities for formal training through IAP2 - The International Association of Public Participation which is accredited and internationally recognised. Plus opportunities to assist with internal training days to up skill in community engagement.

Those that are a part of this Tier may meet slightly more frequently. It is recommended that participants of this group commit to attend 80% of the monthly sessions within the year. This will help inform the 'core' group who can support one another, learn together and continually bounce ideas of each other.

Advocates

You can continue as is, come to the monthly sessions to learn about different community engagement topics and practice and connect with other teams and colleagues. Plus share community engagement projects or initiatives you have coming up.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU

Please fill out the survey below, to let us know what you want to see more of in future sessions :)
