The City of Canning recognises that many people in our community experience barriers to participation in community life, whilst having valuable contributions to make in ensuring Canning continues to be a welcoming and thriving City.

Community members with diverse lived experiences are invited to nominate to be part of our Canning Access and Inclusion Advisory Group to help us improve access and inclusion for people who live, work, study and recreate in the City of Canning.

This group includes community members who identify as:

  • people living with disability and their families/carers,
  • people from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds,
  • people

  • LGBTQI+
  • Representatives from peak bodies and sector organisations working in the access and inclusion space.

The Canning Access and Inclusion Advisory Group provides the City with a reference point for eliciting the views of community members who experience barriers to access and inclusion on a range of issues and topics. It is a source of advice on key strategies and plans including the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan, Reconciliation Action Plan and Learning City Strategy.

The Canning Access and Inclusion Advisory Group meets on a quarterly basis.

The objectives of the group are to:

  • represent community views on access and inclusion matters brought before the Group by City Officers
  • raise challenges and opportunities which relate to access and inclusion in the Canning community; and
  • achieve the best possible range of diverse lived experiences related to access and inclusion to ensure these are presented to City Officers during planning and decision making

This expression of interest usually takes about 10-15 minutes to complete.
