The City of Canning is entering a new and exciting era and it involves you!

With your help and involvement we are developing a Community Plan that will provide a clear direction for achieving what you want for the City. This is an opportunity for us to have a conversation with you to discuss the many opportunities and challenges our City faces, both now and into the future.

    How

From August 2011 until June 2012, we will be conducting a number of engagement activities and events, designed for you to share your perspectives, experiences, needs and issues related to our development and implementation of a strategic Community Plan.

We'd love you to be involved in ways that suit your interests, ways of engaging and lifestyle. We offer a number of different opportunities:

    • Stakeholders Workshop - a first step, a way to determine what the major issues are, who needs to be included and methods for how you’d like to be involved
    • Accountability Group - a group to provide continuing community involvement and ensure the inclusion and representation of the community views, values and positions gathered in the Strategic Community Plan
    • Cultural Mapping - a creative process using film, photography and writing to capture local people’s connections to Canning and ideas for the future
    • Online Engagement - forums, questionnaires and other means of you sharing your perspectives for Canning through the City's online engagement site
    • SpeakOuts - an interactive, staffed event that allows you to drop in and engage with just the topics or themes that interest you
    • A Visioning Workshop - to establish our shared values and ideas for the future of Canning
    • A Public Workshop - to take all the public contributions and ideas gathered so far and begin developing a solid plan for Canning.

    Aims

The Community Plan will be the key document that guides the Council's choices regarding services
and business planning into the future. The Plan aims to:

    • Acknowledge community aspirations and recognise the role of the community in determining its own future
    • Provide an opportunity for participation by the community in decision-making processes on activities to be undertaken by stakeholder groups
    • Describe the activities of groups within the community
    • Coordinate decision-making and use of resources of the City of Canning and other organisations working with and in the community
    • Provide a long-term focus for decisions and activities of the City and other organisations working with and in the community
    • Provide a basis for accountability
    • Guide a review and prioritisation process for all projects included in the Plan Develop a vision for the future of the City
