Pinetree Gully Road Black Spot Project
The City of Canning is seeking community feedback on proposed upgrades to Pinetree Gully Road in Willetton, aimed at improving safety for all road users.
This important corridor runs through the Willetton Precinct—a busy area that includes schools, shopping facilities, recreational spaces, and community services—with particularly high traffic volumes during school drop-off and pick-up times.
Due to these conditions, this section of road has been identified as high-risk, especially for vulnerable users such as students and pedestrians. Common concerns include vehicle speed, congestion, and limited safe crossing points.
To address these issues, the City has secured Australian Government funding through the Black Spot Program, which supports road safety projects with a history of crashes or a high potential for future incidents.
🚦 Proposed Safety Improvements
The proposed upgrades aim to reduce vehicle speeds, improve driver behaviour, and significantly decrease the likelihood and severity of crashes by modifying roundabout approaches. Key treatments include:
Installation of raised plateaus at Castlereagh Close, Bernera Drive, and Werona Court
Pedestrian crossing facility upgrades at the intersection of Wainwright Close and Pinetree Gully Road
Pedestrian crossing facility improvements along Pinetree Gully Road, between Wainwright Close and Bernera Drive
✅ Benefits of the Proposed Safety Upgrades
The proposed upgrades along Pinetree Gully Road are designed to deliver several important benefits for the community, including:
- Improved safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and students
- Lower vehicle speeds and safer driving behaviour
- Reduced congestion, especially during school times
- Fewer and less severe crashes
- Better access to schools, shops, and community facilities
ℹ️ About the Black Spot Program
