Consultation has concluded

The Our Park, Our Place project is back for 2021! There will be a range of workshops and planting days scheduled soon, which we will share with you here.

A collaboration between the City of Canning, Greening Australia, The Behaviour Change Collaborative and sponsored by Lotterywest and the Water Corporation's Drainage for Liveability Program, this project aims to reconnect people with nature in their neighbourhood and enhance the well-being of residents in some of Perth’s most heat-stressed council areas.

One park (on the traditional lands of the Noongar people) has been chosen in each participating local government area, where Greening Australia will work with local residents to create cool green spaces through tree planting.

For Canning, we've chosen Groundlark Park in East Cannington! This is because East Cannington is one of the hottest suburbs in Canning and is expected to undergo significant infill development over the next 20 years, resulting in further tree canopy loss.

Groundlark Park currently has less than 10% tree canopy, which makes it a high priority for planting trees and vegetation. The greening of Groundlark Park will enhance biodiversity and allow greater movement of wildlife between natural areas. Part of the park functions as a drainage basin, so planting more trees will also improve water quality.

Over the course of the project, Greening Australia will organise workshops for local residents to learn more about the unique WA environment and how to take action to create a greener and more connected neighbourhood.

Please visit the Greening Australia Our Park, Our Place project website for more information. To be part of the ongoing project, including educational workshops and planting days, please register so we can keep you up to date.
