Coker Park State Graffiti Fund Grant: Mural Project

Consultation has concluded

The City of Canning recently received State Graffiti Funding to work with young people at Cannington Community College to design and paint a mural on the adjoining Coker Park recreational facility.

The park adjoins and is used by both the Cannington Community College and Sevenoaks Senior College and a range of sporting clubs as well as the general community.

The City has been working with local Perth artist Mel McVee and Year 10 art students of the Cannington Community College to design and paint the mural at Coker Park.

The initiative aims to decrease graffiti incidents at Coker Park and the immediate surrounds.

Throughout the project the City worked with WA Police and the Graffiti Task Force to provide graffiti education to students of the Cannington Community College. Helping to raise awareness around graffiti vandalism and associated consequences, and the difference between graffiti and urban art.

Canning Mayor Paul Ng officially launched the new urban art mural at the Coker Park Sports Pavilion on the 4 December 2018.

    CANNINGTON Community College students unleashed their creative side by designing and painting a mural at Coker Park.

    The recreational facility received a splash of colour from students, thanks to a $16,660 State graffiti fund grant of $16,600.

    Students worked with Perth artist Mel McVee, Cannington Community College visual arts teacher Ms Louwellyn Gossi and her Year 10 art and drawing students to design and paint the mural.
